Once upon a time... I had a blog called Longing for Things Unseen. I used to write things, post pictures, hear from friends - and then came Facebook. What a great invention! Facebook made it very easy to keep up with people, post things that were interesting to me, and know what was going on in the lives of a great number of people. Over time, I realized (with the help of my husband :) that I was spending too much time using it. I read lots of things I didn't need to know about the drama in people's lives, some of which made me upset. I'm not using it much anymore - just a couple minutes a day mostly to check if anyone sent me a message or if my favorite stores are having a sale or giveaway. But I don't want to completely stop chatting with people who I don't see anymore. I miss my friends from college, my relatives who live far away, and people I used to see at our old church. I still want to "be" on the internet and communicate with those old friends (and new ones too, of course).
So it's back to the blog, which will be more intentional than quick comments on Facebook. I'm only going to use it if I have something real to say. Also, I want to keep posting pictures and updates about our family for anyone who cares (Marissa, this means you). Oh, and this blog will have very random content, as my interests are quite varied. I have opinions on lots of topics (theology, politics, childbirth, food, health, parenting - just to name a few!) and will write what I think. Of course I love a good debate, I welcome a challenge to my opinions, and I know that we can all learn from each other.
Congratulations, Christine!! Facebook is not easy to break away from. I've also been off it for about 2 months now, only logging in for the occasional "necessity". For me, it's the news feed that never ends (yes it goes on and on my friend;), often sending me on rabbit trails to who knows what topic has been posted about by all the various organizations I liked. It's good to know, however, that the world will go on regardless of whether I'm aware of everything happening in it at all times:)
ReplyDeleteOkay, well, I will miss you on fb. But this is cool! I like the pics of Linus's bday...is that a LEGO cake?
ReplyDeleteYeah! Now your only Facebookless friend won't be out of the loop. Or at least she won't have to hack into her mom's FB account in order to look at pictures of your kids once in a while. :-)
ReplyDeleteLydia - yes, it is supposed to be a lego, really a duplo block, since that is what he plays with these days. :)
